IP protection level test
IP (INGRESS PROTECTION) PROTECTION rating system is drafted by IEC (INTERNATIONAL ELECTROTECHNICAL COMMISSION), which classifies electrical appliances according to their characteristics of dust and moisture prevention. IP protection level is composed of two numbers. The first number represents the level of electrical appliance dust prevention and foreign object intrusion prevention (foreign objects here include tools, human fingers, etc. can not touch the live parts in electrical appliances to avoid electric shock). The second number represents the degree of tightness of electrical appliances against moisture and water immersion. The larger the number, the higher the protection level.

Representation method

The protection level is usually expressed by IP followed by two numbers, which are used to define the protection level。

The first figure indicates the range of dust resistance of the equipment, or the degree to which people are protected from harm in a sealed environment. It represents the level of preventing solid foreign matters from entering, and the highest level is 6;

The second digit indicates the degree of water resistance of the equipment. It represents the level of preventing water ingress, the highest level is 8

The waterproof test includes the second characteristic number 1 to 8, that is, the protection grade code is IPX1 to IPX8。

The first digit after IP is dust proof grade (as shown in the figure):

Dust proof level of the second digit after IP (as shown in the figure)

Grade waterproof test methods include:

Vertical drip test

Inclined 15 ° drip test

Water sprinkling test

Water splash test

Water spray test

Strong water spray test

Short time immersion test

Continuous diving test

The standards for IP (INGRESS PROTECTION) PROTECTION grade and waterproof test are:

1)International standards for protection and waterproofing tests drafted by IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission): IEC 529 – 598

2)GB 700 – 86

3)GB/T 4208-2017 Degrees of Protection Provided by Enclosures (IP Code), etc.

Our company has cooperation with SGS-CSTC testing laboratory, environmental reliability and electromagnetic compatibility testing center, aerospace environmental reliability testing and testing center, Suzhou Electric Appliance Research Institute, National Electrical Product Quality Supervision and Inspection Center, etc.
